The name ‘Ban Suriya’ translates to ‘Sunshine House’, and this dwelling more than delivers on its name. Unspoilt surroundings, spectacular views of Thailand’s National Marine Park and blissful sunsets are just a few of the highlights for guests to take away from a stay at this stylish and luxurious tropical island property.
A warm welcome

When you pull up outside the crisp white walls of Ban Suriya, the first thing you’ll notice is that the villa’s staff are ready and waiting for you to arrive. You’ll be greeted with a warm Thai welcome, before being shown inside the property and served refreshing mocktails with a chilled herbal compress to help you cool off after your journey. One member of staff takes care of your luggage while the villa manager introduces everyone else before offering a tour of the stunning property. After a long journey to Koh Samui, we were pretty hungry – so the offer of a specially-prepared Thai lunch cooked by the property’s professional chef was the perfect addition to a wonderful welcome.

As soon as you step inside the walls of Ban Suriya you begin o get a feel for the carefully thought-out design of the property. You feel as if you’re stepping into your very own private tropical haven as you follow the stepping stone path that leads up to the villa’s entrance, past lush green lawns, colourful flowers and ornate sculptures.As you walk through the door and you’re greeted by the stunning double-height atrium that forms the heart of the property. Double height glazing and a line of clerestory windows flood the space with natural brightness, revealing a stunning dining area that looks out onto the expansive oceanfront garden. The villa is decorated almost exclusively in white, with standalone pieces of furniture and artwork adding vibrant accent colours. The central atrium of the villa is home to a coffee corner, plus a sunken lounge with an underwater window through to the pool outside. There’s also a delightful mezzanine level overlooking the main living space, which boasts statement pieces of furniture including a suspended spherical chair. A desktop computer is also available for guests to use in this area, which also boasts a wide selection of music and is connected to the villa’s state-of-the-art sound system.
Exploring the property

As you take your first wander through this stunning villa , you’ll notice that there are multiple dining locations – in the main villa, by the pool, in the tropical gardens or even on the beach. The sunken lounge area is home to a plush oversized armchair, which looks out onto the gardens towards the beach. There’s also a television and DVD player for when night falls and you can no longer take in the sea views.
Ban Suriya’s six bedrooms are spread across several pavilions, which are accessed via the back of the main property. Featuring a four-poster bed, ensuite shower room and private lounge area, the Suriya Bedroom is the master suite. Next to the master suite is the Butterfly Bedroom, a stunning double bedroom with its own ensuite shower room. Imported from New Zealand, the brightly coloured wallpaper on the feature wall is particularly striking. The Shell bedroom is also situated in this part of the property, and features twin beds that can be joined together to make a double.
On the other side of the garden, you’ll find the Aqua, Peacock, and Wave bedrooms. Each stunning space decorated in its own theme colour, creating a vibrant décor scheme that perfectly suits the mood and natural surroundings.
Beyond the basics

In addition to the all of the communal living space and comfortable sleeping accommodation spread across the various pavilions, there’s also a selection of extra features and facilities at Ban Suriya that infuse this villa with even more wow factor.
Positioned towards the front of the property with direct access to the plunge pool, the air-conditioned gym is equipped with a vast range of equipment, including yoga mats, a punch bag and exercise balls. A corridor links this area to a spacious bathroom and the games room, which is equipped with a 42inch television, a DVD player, plus Nintendo Wii and Playstation consoles. There’s an expansive library of DVDs to choose from, too.
A short trip across the courtyard will bring you to the bar area, which is home to its own pool table. The serene spa room is in this part of the property, too, providing a luxurious space to enjoy a private pamper session, which can be easily booked through the villa manager.

The outdoor facilities at Ban Suriya are undoubtedly one of the property’s main draws. In addition to generous landscaped gardens and a 20-metre pool and swim-up bar that doubles up as an outdoor dining pavilion, the villa also offers direct access to the soft sands of beautiful Lipa Noi beach. You’ll find that there’s plenty of outdoor activities to try out at Ban Suriya too, from swimming laps in the pool to setting up a game of volleyball using the nets on the beach. There are also complimentary sea kayaks and a paddle board for guests to use.
With seven full-time staff available, the excellent level of personalised service at Ban Suriya was a notable plus. The crowning jewel in the villa’s array of boutique services, however, is the option for guests to create their own holiday menu with dishes prepared to order by the villa’s professional Thai chef. The kitchen is situated adjacent to the main house at the front, not far from the pool, which means you can smell the delicious aromas as you sip on pre-dinner sundowners. The presentation of the food at Ban Suriya is exquisite – right down to the beautiful shapes into which pieces of tropical fruit are carved for breakfast. This is a villa for connoisseurs of exclusivity and independence.
