Upmarket beach clubs are the latest trend to ignite Phuket’s ever-changing social scene. These chilled out venues provide the ideal spot for visitors to lounge on a day bed throughout the sultry afternoon before indulging in a few cocktails once the sun sets.
Xana Beach Club
Situated on Phuket’s idyllic west coast Bangtao Beach, Xana is one of the island’s hippest beachside venues. A 35-metre pool sits at the centre of the club, which also happens to be home to the longest swim-up bar in Asia. Guests can look forward to sampling tasty dishes from a Mediterranean-inspired menu that has been put together by renowned Italian chef Mirko Cappa. Xana’s broad selection of cocktails is also particularly enticing, with an array of original recipes all inspired by local flavours and ingredients – including Thai chillies. Cabanas and salas can be booked in advance for guests that want to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere from the shade.
Skye Beach Club
Skye Beach Club is the latest ocean-side venue to set up shop on the idyllic shores of Phuket. Located on Naiyang Beach, just a few minutes’ drive from Phuket International Airport, the venue occupies a delightful spot on the laid back northwest coast of the island. The club is ideal for those in search of place that combines fantastic views, a relaxed atmosphere and a mouth-watering menu, and prides itself on being a family-friendly destination. Celebrated Thai chef Saharat Tangthai is the creative mind behind Skye’s alluring menu, and has cooked for a range of Bangkok’s most famous restaurants. Though the club does not boast its own pool, the ocean is a few metres away and a showering area is provided for guests.
Bliss Beach Club
Bliss Beach Club is another of the stylish daytime and evening venues on Phuket’s charming Bangtao Beach. The clubs open, tropical design makes the most of wide, beachside space and patrons enjoy a refreshing dose of sea breeze to go with the fine food and drinks on offer. An array of ‘love loungers’ and relaxation sofas have been set up beneath the palm trees outside the club to provide guests with some shade as they check out the highlights of the impressive menu. Bliss’s extensive wine list is another of the club’s main draws, with no less than 140 different labels on offer to sip your way to (and well past) sunset.
Catch Beach Club
Catch – which opened its doors back in 2006 – is one of Phuket’s longest running oceanside venues. This hip beachside club was the first of its kind to set up shop on Phuket’s Surin Beach, and thanks to fabulous views and a sophisticated Mediterranean vibe, it has been attracting visitors since day one. Set in a single-storey open-sided building, the club is nestled into the palms and directly overlooks the ocean. An expansive covered dining space is set around Catch’s open kitchen, where an array of exquisite dishes are prepared. If you’re looking for a party, head to Catch at the weekend for DJs, live music and even fire dancers.
BIMI Beach Club
The sister venue to Catch Beach Club, also on Phuket’s Surin Beach is the BiMi (‘Be Me’) Beach Club, which was established in 2013. This elegant venue has been designed to make the most of its surroundings, with tropical coconut and almond trees for shade. Marketed as one of Phuket’s premier all-day party destinations, BiMi boasts a total of four house DJs playing dazzling sets from 11 am onwards every day. Despite the party vibe, the volume doesn’t get in the way of the club’s relaxing atmosphere. Hungry guests shouldn’t miss the chance to sample BiMi’s irresistible seafood menu, which features fresh prawns, squid and lobster.
