As part of an ongoing plan to guarantee ethical and environmentally friendly practices, Samui Villas & Homes Co., Ltd. (SVH) and Phuket Villas & Homes Co., Ltd. (PVH), recently declared its commitment to the implementation of "The Code of Conduct" for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism.
An official signing ceremony took place at Dhevatara Residence on Friday 17th of April, attended by representatives from Samui Villas & Homes and ECPAT Foundation Thailand, as well as the head of the Samui Municipality and the island's police chief.
SVH CEO John Birt signed the agreement with Mr. Pravit Ekcharoensook, the head of ECPAT (End Child Prostitution Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes), an organization that works to protect children in the travel and tourism industry.
The main objective of Mr. Pravit's visit to Samui was to conduct a training seminar for SVH staff. On Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th of April, more than 60 SVH staff went through an eductational training seminar with roleplays that focused on the problem of child abuse within the travel and tourism industry. The implementation of preventive steps and reporting methods as an integrated part of the companies daily operations was part of the training seminar.
On the 21st of September, SVH participated in the annual Global Mala Samui by having an information booth presenting and sharing the results of the company's green effort.
The aim of the event this year was to raise funds for local environmental initiatives, to support Green Island Project to create documentaries for tourists and for children, and to support Childlife, an orphanage in Mae Sai.
"Take the plunge for International Cleanup Day” and “Splash for Trash” are the slogans for the event which took place throughout Thailand to target underwater and shoreline debris this 20th September 2008. The event is organized by Project Aware Foundation.
SVH-PVH staff participated in the beach clan up on several locations around Samui and Phuket.
